Archival print of original gouache painting of nuns based on photographs from an old Catholic High School yearbook. Text is taken from various writings by mystical nuns from Medieval times.
The photographs of the nuns appealed to me both for their formal qualities and for the individual personalities that asserted themselves against the uniformity of their habits. The text is taken from different writings by mystical nuns from the Medieval period. Juxtaposing contemporary nuns with the very old texts enabled me to conflate history and the present, a chance to revisit old experiences and attitudes about faith and place them with current ones.
